Known for his nuanced interpretations of baroque and contemporary repertoire alike, Corey brings an unmistakable depth and sincerity to every performance—whether evoking the sacred stillness of oratorio or the theatrical fire of the operatic stage.
A passionate interpreter of early music, Corey has appeared as a soloist in cornerstone works such as Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Magnificat, and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with esteemed ensembles including the Dream Orchestra of Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo Bach Week, and the Royal Academy of Music. His affinity for 20th-century repertoire was on full display in his performances of Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with the San Luis Obispo Master Chorale and, most recently, Bernstein’s Missa Brevis as the featured countertenor soloist in Cuesta Concord Chorus’s Spring 2025 program, The Sacred and the Profane.
On the operatic stage, Corey has garnered acclaim for his compelling portrayals of Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina and the title role in Handel’s Orlando, combining vocal agility with capitvating dramatic instinct. Whether in concert or on stage, his performances are marked by clarity of tone, stylistic sensitivity, and a natural sense of storytelling.
In addition to his stage accomplishments, Corey has also excelled in competitive settings. He was a Finalist in the 8th Annual Opera Ithaca Edward M. Murray International Competition of Voice in 2024, a 2022 District Winner in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, a Finalist in the 2023 Palm Springs Opera Guild Competition, and a Semi-finalist in the highly competitive Pasadena Vocal Competition three years running (2022–2024).
Corey is also a sought-after recitalist and concert performer, bringing his world-class storytelling capabilities and performance to the most intimate of settings. A frequent soloist with San Diego's Opera a la Carte and La Jolla's monthly Opera Wednesdays concerts, Corey possesses an ability to truly capitivate audiences with his interpretation of not only operatic arias, but tender art songs, delicate French melodie, and evocative German Lied. He also appeared in concert as a featured soloist in the 2024 sold-out Opera in the Park event with the Palm Springs Opera Guild.
Beyond his performance endeavors, Corey is also a skilled composer. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance and Composition from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Corey made history as the first student to have his compositions performed by the university’s Symphonic Orchestra and the elite Cal Poly Polyphonics choir. His works, ranging from poignant choral pieces to evocative orchestral works, have graced prestigious venues worldwide, have been featured in venues around the world, including his French chanson “Ophélie III: Et le Poète dix” at the Llangollen Eisteddfod in Wales and his “Psalm 27” at the Coventry Cathedral in England. Most recently Corey has begun to write a series of choral pieces commissioned by Dr. Ruben Valenzuela and the All Soul's Episcopal Church Choir, including his recently premiered setting of the timeless text, Ubi Caritas.
Continuing his artistic journey, Corey pursued a Master of Arts degree in Vocal Performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he honed his skills under the guidance of esteemed mentors such as Raymond Connell, internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Caitlin Hulcup, and accomplished and highly-credited repetiteur Joseph Middleton. Corey continues to refine his artistry through ongoing mentorship and collaboration with some of the most respected figures in opera today. He studies regularly with acclaimed teachers and internet sensations James Smidt and Bryce McClendon, focusing on developing the art of bel canto technique and developing early music mastery with each. Corey also studies frequently with internationally acclaimed soprano Jennifer Rowley.
Corey has also had the pleasure of working with esteemed coaches including Anthony V. Manoli, renowned pianist and coach whose collaborations span the Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera, and Teatro des Champs‑Élysées. He also receives vocal and interpretive coaching from Jason Ferrante, a celebrated tenor and pedagogue whose students perform with many of the world’s leading opera houses. Additional guidance has come from Martha Collins, Director of Education and longtime stage director at Sarasota Opera; Jesse Martins, Music Director of Sarasota Youth Opera; Bruce Stasyna, a leading operatic coach and chorus master at San Diego Opera; and Lucy Tucker Yates, an expert in Italian diction and bel canto style, currently on faculty at Teatro Nuovo and UCLA. These mentors have played an essential role in shaping Corey’s vocal technique, stylistic range, and artistic identity.
